fire sale at hp was even more disappointing

i really really tried to get one of those touchpads. but the HP servers just broke down. and unexplainable the next morning (got up at 5 am) all touchpads were sold out. and all pre3 and veers.
hard to tell why, when the servers were down. grrrrrrrrrrr

so now lets just hope samsung or htc is aware of the run and ports webOS to their tablets.
i think if its possible to rund android on a touchpad, it must be possible to run webOS on another platform with a armv9

have fun, lets hope for this good os to stay alive

a sad day for the webos community

imagine you have a perfect operating system for a smartphone, open source friendly, open for anybody to programm on, but noone is giving a sh*t and its a flop on the market, even if the price is fair.

hp pulled the ripcord.
they've bought palm (and webos) for more than a billion $, they pumped another billion in the wrecking company and after a year they've found that nothing changed:
-devices still don't sell
-hardware is not bleeding edge
-even worse: 5 different webos version are around, each more or less incompatible to another and the worst
-this scared all developers away

but still the OS is unique and a million times better than andr0id and i0s.

as there is a boatload of tablets not selling i expect to see the price falling in some days. and i really think i'll get one

sources:
precentral
and a nice quote from another article on precentral.net this day:
We don’t know, but at least webOS would still be alive. If HP can’t find a buyer or licensees, webOS is as good as dead.

X Server on my HP Veer running firefox (under debian chroot)

Finaly i found the time to follow the instructions and installed dtzwill's Xserver and Xterm and a debian system on my Veer.

What is this X thing?
to desribe it best imagine this as the standard graphical output under linux. so every graphical programm under linux should work (including openoffice, gimp and firefox, etc.

but webos is not debian, or?
well, no. but you can chroot to a debian image

what is chroot?
imagine this as a sandbox, where you can play at, without touching the surrounding garden.

Isnt the display too small on a cellphone to use firefox and openoffice?
yes, indeed ;-) but you know why dogs lick their genitals? because they can !

If you want to give it a try on your own, install Xecutah on preware, and follow this instruction

and i did some pics also ... klick on "Read more" !!!

Optware platforms Optware packages currently run on the following devices:
Linksys NSLU2 with Unslung firmware
Asus routers with USB and WL-700gE WL-HDD with Oleg's or openWRT or dd-wrt firmware
Synology DS-101 with custom bootstrapping
Synology DS-101g+ with custom bootstrapping
Synology DS-101j with custom bootstrapping
Maxtor Shared Storage with OpenMSS firmware
Maxtor Shared Storage II (MSSII) with custom bootstrapping
Iomega NAS 100d with LudeOS
Nokia N800/N810 from cs05q1armel feed (install ipkg-opt).
FSG3/HomePage Freecom FSG-3 with FSG3/HomePage custom bootstrapping
Palm Pre and Pre Plus (install ipkg-opt from Preware)
Palm Pixi and Pixi Plus (install ipkg-opt from Preware)
Palm Pre Emulator (install ipkg-opt from Preware) [1]
(Sheevaplug, Pogoplug V1, V2, Pro, Biz, Dockstar, etc.)
WD TV Live HD Media
Android devices.
For the Nook Color see the Nookdevs.com Optware page.

Viel Spass beim stöbern in den Paketen, und stellt euch einfach vor, daß das alles auf meinem Handy läuft ;)

New features on WebOS 2.1
2.3.11, 08:45 - Linux
gepostet von web doc
I really couldn't wait any longer for a new device to be sold by hp in germany. so i hacked my palm pre (again) and installed
webos2.1
flashplayer
and a 1 ghz (overclocking) uberkernel

this telephone is mindblowing now.

First I will tell you something about the new features:
-There is a central programm for managing the online accounts (facebook, google, etc.) which makes life a lot easier.
-The programm launcher now offers "stacking" the programms. hfcoma says he would die for this feature, it offers a better overview to your opened programms. As i do not open 20 prgs at once i really do need other things more ;-)
-Speechdialer is a new programm that offers (as the programm suggests) a speechdialing version. this is really cool for bt heatset users.
-The app cataloge is renovated, offering a better overview. really good!
-a software manager lets you remove programs. (no more orange+tap)
-VPN prg by default
-the justType search function is way better than the old one. you can also add searchengines by yourself.

now for the things that get a "dislike"
-many programs are not ported to 2.1 yet.
-even the essential terminal and internalz are not portet (funny: internalz IS ported, but due to a NDA not available :/ ) UPDATE: internalz now available!!! thanks HPalm to allow the breaking of nda explizit :-D )
-flashplayer is too slow for showing videos. NO f* chance on that. but it works !!!

here some pics:
